Universal Pictures announced on Friday that everyone will be kung fu battling in 2024, Variety first reported.

The film, slated for release on March 8, 2024, will be the first instalment in the "Kung Fu Panda" series since 2016,

when the DreamWorks Animation series concluded a planned trilogy.

The star of the films is Po (Jack Black), a hyperactive panda bear

who lives in a fanciful version of ancient China.

The first "Kung Fu Panda," which earned $631 million globally,

was DreamWorks' highest-grossing original animated film.

With a total box office take of $1.8 billion,

the films established a franchise that spanned three television series and

a number of animated TV specials, including "The Dragon Knight," whose first season released on Netflix last month.

Beyond the release date, no more details about the fourth film in the series have been disclosed.

In addition to Black, the cast of the original trilogy also features Dustin Hoffman,

Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, David Cross, and James Hong.
