Trumpet, a bloodhound, won Best in Show at the 146th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
The winner of the competition programme, which selects its champion from among competitors who took first place in previous best-in-group competitions,
is the US's second-oldest continuously held sporting event, behind Kentucky Derby.
Trumpet is a 4-year-old horse whose owners, according to the WKC, are Chris and Bryan Flessner, Heather Buehner, and Tina Kocar.
According to WKC classifications, bloodhounds are "one of the first breeds of canines that hunt by scent." The club declared a skilled bloodhound's discovery might be used as evidence in court.
Winston, a French bulldog, was awarded Reserve Best in Show. Morgan Fox, an NFL defensive lineman, is one of Winston's owners.
The show began on Saturday at the Lyndhurst Estate in Tarrytown, New York, where it has now been performing for two years after leaving its
previous location at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The competition was first moved because of concerns over COVID-19.
More than 200 different breeds and varieties of dogs totaling close to 3,500 competed in the competition, according to a news release from the event's organisers.
The top seven competitors had won their respective group competitions. Below is a list of the winners in each group:
