A vital part of life achievement is the capacity to lead. We must not only be capable of leading others, but also willing to lead ourselves. Nobody succeeds in life by simply copying what others have done. It’s sometimes necessary to take a chance and attempt something new.
It takes more than just standing in front of a crowd to be an effective leader. Action is required of a leader. Too often in America, we accept someone’s leadership based on their appearance or voice, rather than examining the actions taken by the leader, which is the ultimate test of leadership.
However, rather than focusing on appearances, we must focus on actions in order to become effective leaders. Although the title of this article mentions eight phases, don’t think of them in the same way that many recipes or instruction manuals do. Consider these to be things you should do on a regular basis.
First and foremost, keep your eyes open for new opportunities. “Reality” is an ephemeral construct that is always changing. Consider the past’s great inventors, explorers, and social change-makers. Some may assume that some people’s success is due to their being in the right location at the right time. Maybe, but if they hadn’t kept their eyes open for the opportunity, it wouldn’t have mattered if they were in the right place.
Second, accept inspiration from anybody, including your competitors. The wisest leaders keep a close eye on their adversaries. In battle, politics, and business, we see examples of this type of research and reconnaissance all the time. Many people waste much too much time seeking for a defect in a study to exploit. If you want to be a positive change leader, don’t fall prey to this trend. Instead, if you see a fault, make it a priority to correct it immediately. Find a way to improve your own characteristics to match the power you discover.
Third, learn something new every day and advertise in a variety of methods. This means that you should always endeavour to widen your perspectives, both within and globally. Fill your mind with new material and lessons, but also remember to widen your social horizons. Seek out and meet new people to meet new people and immerse oneself in new social situations. You never know when these new experiences will be useful in your leadership role.
Fourth, search for and analyse small clues to find solutions. Look under the surface and keep asking questions. You’re looking for new knowledge, which is similar to the third phase. This will, however, necessitate a break from traditional information channels. Don’t limit yourself to best-sellers or literary classics. Because they allow for more questioning and debate, seminars are preferable to classes. Look for non-conventional philosophers, professors, and writers.
Fifth, improvise if no other options are available. There are no extenuating circumstances. Need is the mother of all inventions. How do you know it won’t work if you’ve never tried anything before? It’s important to remember that not all approaches must come from the front. Examine the problem from every viewpoint and experiment with various solutions in various combinations.
Sixth, make at least one person you care about happy every day. If you make it a point to be attentive and caring for one person each day, it will quickly become a habit, and the habit will spread to others. Making someone else happy helps you to feel better about yourself. Consider how much better the world would be if we all did our part to spread happiness.
Seventh, even if there is no clear benefit to you, offer assistance. This takes a great deal more than just writing a check. It requires committing your time, energy, and self to the cause. It could involve helping someone you don’t know or doing a very personal deed.
Finally, never let your negativity be the last word on a subject. No matter how excited you are about the possibility of a project or activity, if your closing remarks are negative, you will leave a poor impression on others. You’ll have a better chance of receiving a positive result if you concentrate on the positive.
If you follow these eight action steps, you will not only become a better leader, but you will also lead yourself to a more prosperous life.
